# AI Lead Qualification Chatbot for WhatsApp & Messenger | SaleMag

> SaleMag's lead qualification chatbot is an automation flow for businesses in Bangladesh that asks WhatsApp and Messenger enquiries your questions, saves each answer, branches on the replies, tags the contact and assigns hot leads to a sales rep. An AI step answers free-text questions from your knowledge base. The AI does not score or tag leads by itself.

- Qualification questions run in the visual automation flow builder, not inside the AI.
- Each answer is saved to a flow variable, and an update step writes it to a contact field.
- Condition branches tag the contact and assign qualified leads to a sales rep in the shared inbox.
- An AI reply or run chatbot step answers free-text questions from your knowledge base.
- Follow-ups use broadcasts to tagged contacts and approved WhatsApp templates.

When a Facebook ad or a WhatsApp link brings in fifty enquiries a day, most of them are "details please" or "price koto?". A few are ready to buy this week. Your sales team needs to know which is which before they spend time on a call. A lead qualification chatbot is a chatbot that asks every enquiry the same questions your best salesperson would, saves the answers and puts the serious buyers in front of a person.

## How does lead qualification work in SaleMag?

Lead qualification in SaleMag runs as an automation flow: a trigger, question steps, conditions on the answers, and tag and assign actions, with an AI step for open-ended questions. You build the flow on a visual canvas in the [automation flow builder](https://salemag.net/features/automation-flow-builder), and the AI answers from your knowledge base where a customer asks something the questions do not cover.

The table shows which part of SaleMag does each job.

| Part of the job | Done by |
|---|---|
| Starting the conversation on a keyword or first message | Flow trigger |
| Asking "Which course?", "Which area?", "When do you want to start?" | Ask question steps |
| Storing each answer | Saved to a flow variable, then written to a contact field by an update contact step |
| Deciding who is qualified | Condition steps (AND/OR) you define |
| Marking the lead | Add tag step, for example hot-lead |
| Routing to a salesperson | Assign to agent step |
| Answering "Is there a weekend batch?" | An AI step in the flow, or the AI chatbot linked to the channel, from your knowledge base |

The AI itself does not tag, score or fill in contact fields. That keeps the qualification rules in your hands, where you can see and change them.

## What does a WhatsApp lead qualification flow look like?

A SaleMag lead qualification flow is a short sequence: a trigger, an AI answer, three or four questions, and a condition that tags and assigns the lead. Take a Mirpur coaching centre advertising HSC batches on Facebook, with a "Message on WhatsApp" link:

1. **Trigger:** a keyword such as "admission", or any inbound message.
2. **Run chatbot:** the AI answers the message that started the flow, for example "fees koto?", from the prospectus in your knowledge base.
3. **Ask question:** "Which class are you in? Reply 1 for HSC 1st year, 2 for HSC 2nd year." The reply is saved as a flow variable.
4. **Update contact:** write that answer to a custom field called class.
5. **Ask question:** "Which branch is closer, Mirpur 10 or Mirpur 2?" Save and store it the same way.
6. **Ask question:** "Do you want to start this month? Reply yes or no."
7. **Condition:** if the answer contains "yes", add the tag hot-lead and assign the chat to the admissions officer. Otherwise add the tag nurture.

Conditions compare text: equals, contains, exists, greater than and less than, plus whether the contact has a tag. Numbered or yes/no options make the answers easy to match. You can also send quick-reply buttons or list messages in the flow for choices.

## Can the AI answer questions during lead qualification?

Yes. In SaleMag, an AI reply or run chatbot step answers the message that started the flow, and a chatbot linked to the channel answers later free-text questions, both from your knowledge base. The step uses your [AI chatbot](https://salemag.net/features/ai-chatbot) and its sources: files, web pages, FAQs and products. It replies in the language the customer writes in, including Bangla and [Banglish](https://salemag.net/glossary/banglish), and is instructed never to invent prices or policies.

The linked chatbot replies to any message the same way and makes a [human handover](https://salemag.net/glossary/human-handover) when it is unsure or the customer asks for a person. Once the flow assigns the chat to a sales rep, the linked chatbot stops auto-replying in that chat. If both a flow and a linked chatbot are active on the same number, run a test conversation end to end so the questions and the AI answers do not overlap.

## Where do qualified leads go in SaleMag?

Qualified leads go to the right sales rep in SaleMag's [shared inbox](https://salemag.net/features/shared-inbox), with the saved answers and tags on the contact record. The assign step routes the chat. Moderators can see and reassign every chat; agents see chats assigned to them or still unassigned.

From there you can:

- filter contacts by tag and use them as a broadcast audience
- keep notes and labels on the conversation for the next person
- see first-response and resolution times in reports

For a deeper view of contacts and lists, see [CRM and segments](https://salemag.net/features/crm-segments).

## Do chat leads go into SaleMag's leads pipeline?

No. SaleMag's leads pipeline holds only prospects from the lead finder; chat enquiries are tracked with tags, contact fields, assignment and inbox status. The leads module has a kanban pipeline, custom stages, follow-ups and activities, and is built for outbound prospecting: the lead finder pulls businesses from Google Places and scores them hot, warm or cold by rules such as having a phone number, rating and reviews. You can push those prospects to your contacts and message them.

Once a lead-finder prospect is pushed to your contacts, its stage changes, qualification, wins and losses can trigger automations, so agencies and B2B sellers can follow up on pipeline moves.

## How do you follow up with WhatsApp leads who go quiet?

Follow up with approved WhatsApp templates, sent by SaleMag after a wait step in the flow or as a broadcast to a tag. Inside the [24-hour window](https://salemag.net/glossary/24-hour-window) you can reply freely; after that, WhatsApp requires an approved template. Two common patterns:

- A **wait step** in the flow, then a reminder template, for example two days after the last question.
- A **broadcast** to everyone tagged nurture, sent as a [WhatsApp broadcast](https://salemag.net/features/whatsapp-broadcast) to contacts who have [opted in](https://salemag.net/glossary/opt-in), or by SMS through a Bangladeshi gateway.

Once a lead is ready to buy a product, the [AI sales agent](https://salemag.net/ai-agents/ai-sales-agent) can take it from there.

## Get started

Write down the three questions that separate a buyer from a browser. Build them as a flow with a tag and an assign step, test it, and let your AI chatbot handle everything else. [Create an account](https://salemag.net/register) or see [pricing](https://salemag.net/pricing).

## Steps

1. **Create custom fields and tags**: Add contact fields for the answers you need, such as course, area or budget, and tags such as hot-lead.
2. **Build the question flow**: Start from a keyword or inbound message trigger, add ask-question steps, then update contact steps to save each answer.
3. **Branch, tag and assign**: Add conditions on the answers, tag qualified contacts and assign them to a sales rep.
4. **Add AI and test**: Add an AI reply or run chatbot step for open questions, use a test run, then turn the flow on.

## FAQ

### Does the AI decide which leads are hot?

No. SaleMag's AI answers questions; it does not score, tag or update contacts. Your automation flow does that, using condition branches you define, so the rules are visible and predictable.

### Why does SaleMag qualify leads with a flow instead of the AI?

A flow asks the same questions every time and applies rules you can read and change, so every lead is judged the same way. SaleMag's AI is used where it is strongest: answering free-text questions from your knowledge base.

### Can SaleMag qualify leads on Facebook Messenger?

Yes. SaleMag's question steps can send on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram or Telegram when the contact has an open conversation there. Facebook and Instagram comments are not supported.

### Where do the lead's answers go?

Each answer is first saved to a flow variable. Add an update contact step to store it on the SaleMag contact, for example in a custom field such as budget or course.

### Do qualified chats appear in SaleMag's leads pipeline?

No. SaleMag's leads pipeline holds prospects found with the lead finder. Chat enquiries are tracked on the contact with tags, custom fields, assignment and inbox status.

### Can the qualification bot ask questions in Bangla?

Yes. You write the questions in SaleMag, so write them in Bangla, English or both. The AI step replies in the language the customer writes in.

### Do I need a developer to build a lead qualification flow?

No. SaleMag's flow builder is a visual canvas, and you can describe the flow in plain text and let AI draft it, then edit and test it before turning it on.

### How much does a lead qualification chatbot cost?

SaleMag plans are on the [pricing page](https://salemag.net/pricing). AI steps run on your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key, so the provider bills AI usage, and Meta charges for some WhatsApp messages.
