F-commerce

F-commerce means selling through Facebook pages, groups and Messenger, often with WhatsApp and Instagram. See how it works and where it gets hard.

What is f-commerce?

F-commerce is short for Facebook commerce: running a shop on Facebook instead of, or before, building a website. The page posts products, runs boosts and live videos, and customers ask questions in comments and Messenger. In practice most f-commerce shops also use WhatsApp and Instagram, so it overlaps with social and conversational commerce.

A typical f-commerce sale goes like this:

  1. A customer sees a post or ad and comments "price?" or sends a message.
  2. The page replies with price, sizes and delivery charge.
  3. The customer gives name, phone and address in chat.
  4. The page books a courier and the customer pays cash on delivery.

Why does it matter in Bangladesh?

F-commerce is how a large number of small businesses, many run from home, sell clothing, cosmetics, food, gadgets and crafts. The model is cheap to start, but it gets hard as it grows:

  • hundreds of identical questions every day, often late at night,
  • orders copied by hand from chat into spreadsheets,
  • missed messages and slow replies during campaigns,
  • refused parcels and returns on COD orders.

Tools that reply automatically, collect order details in a form and keep every chat in one inbox exist to fix exactly these problems.

Example

A homemade pickle page gets 200 comments on a live video. An auto-reply answers each "price?" comment in Messenger, the AI assistant takes orders in chat, and the owner spends the evening packing instead of typing addresses.
